Grant Update - HEARTSafe Bexley!
Funded in part with a grant from the Bexley Community Foundation Fund, HEARTSafe Bexley is designed to improve survivorship of sudden cardiac arrest. This project is a collaboration between the City of Bexley, community organizations, and emergency medical service providers to train bystanders to intervene in the event of sudden cardiac arrests. The program encourages the implementation of an emergency action plan involving calling 911, starting CPR, and using an AED. Elements of HEARTSafe Bexley include community-based CPR and AED classes as well as AED acquisition by Bexley residents, businesses, and institutions.
Additionally, as part of the grant, AED (Automated External Defibrillator) stations are being installed around the City, including at Commonwealth and Schneider. These stations give our community quick access to life-saving equipment. In a cardiac emergency, every second matters having AEDs nearby can mean the difference between life and death. Fund Update - Trees for Bexley!
PLANT TREES! And we did. In 2024, 100 new street trees were planted thanks to donors to Trees for Bexley. $40,000 was raised to create a quercetum in the Fair Avenue medians and the work is underway! In 2025, Trees for Bexley will focus on the north side of Clifton Avenue.
The Bexley Beautification Fund conducts two campaigns each year, Trees for Bexley and Bexley in Bloom, and invests in Bexley's urban forest, the physical environment and community beautification. Fund projects have included replacement trees throughout the City to preserve green areas in every Bexley neighborhood, gateways at the entrances to the community, plantings and lighting at Drexel Circle, trees in the Main Street medians, and flower baskets on Main Street and the Broad Street and Clifton Avenue bridges.
